We look at spelling, grammar, general English quality, punctuation, citation, reference formatting and overall presentation.

The rules of grammar, punctuation, and style are often the things by which examiners/readers will judge your work.

• Identify and correct grammar and syntax errors.
• Review proper placement of punctuation.
• Correct typos, metric units, and misspellings, and ensure consistent use of spelling formats i.e. UK English or US English.
• Transform awkward sentences into clear and powerful statements by undertaking light rewriting to improve readability and understanding. If considerable rewriting is required, we will provide suggestions.
• Correct time shifts in sentences and shifts in person.
• Highlight areas where clarification and/or supplementary explanation is needed.
• Ensure consistent use of abbreviations, capitalization, bold and italic text, terminology, and numbering.
• Conduct occasional fact-checking and ensure in-text references are in the correct style/format and are included in the reference list.
• Ensure that the reference list is correctly formatted (on request).
• Where possible, highlight areas where references are missing and should be provided i.e. unfounded arguments, and sweeping statements.
• Catching errors in headings, graphs, charts, and tables.
• Produce a table of contents, a list of figures and tables, and correct page numbering.
• Ensure a consistent style for figures and table captions.
• Ensure consistency in heading levels and styles.
• Ensure that the format/page layout (margins) are in line with your institution’s requirements.
